The Clipper Men's Soccer Team is on a roll right now as they have played well and have strung together three straight games unbeaten to improve to 3-4-1 in conference play.
Coming off a fantastic win against Centralia, the lads looked to repeat the results against bottom of the West Region table Pierce this past Wednesday at home.
Sophomore Midfielder/Forward Djibril Corrielus got the Clips going in the 8th minute with a goal coming from a Mathias Fog feed for the early 1-0 lead. The Clips maintained the pressure on the Raider end throughout the first half and were rewarded with two more goals to close out the half. Alex Canning netted yet another goal coming off an assist from Alejandro De La Rosa and Corrielus continued his scoring streak with another two-goal performance on the day.
A second half goal from Pierce coming off a defensive error made for some nervy minutes, but the Clips were able to recover mentally and close out the game for the three points, winning 3-1.
"I feel like we've had more motivation throughout our practices and games," said Sebas San Elias when asked about what has been going right during this great two-game stretch for the team. "Every individual is working really hard on every aspect of the game and I feel like it helps us win more games."
Following their win against the Raiders, the Clips made the trip up the 5 to take on Tacoma hoping to get revenge for the 5-0 shellacking they suffered at the hands of the Titans.
It was a chippy game throughout as there were a combined seven yellow cards given out, five of which were awarded to Clipper players. Nevertheless, a soccer game ensued and, as usual, Alex Canning netted the first goal of the game off a neat Corrielus pass in the 15th minute. The lead was short lived as the Titans netted the equalizer six minutes later. Then in the 39th minute, Canning reinstated the Clipper lead thanks to a Christian Esquivel Jaskiewicz feed to give the lads some ease going into the break.
The tone of the second half could be described in only one word: physical. Both teams were playing aggressive and hard, not being afraid of contact or collisions. Ultimately, the Titans were able break through the staunch Clipper defense to net the tying goal in the 74th minute. The score remained 2-2 until the final whistle as both teams came away with one point for their efforts.
It was the best week for the Clippers so far as they came away with four points out of a possible six and now must focus on their upcoming homestand where they will take on Clark on Wednesday, October 8 and Centralia on the 11th.
