Clippers Go 3–0 While Hosting West Region NWAC Crossover
OLYMPIA, Wash. — South Puget Sound Women's Basketball hosted the West Region NWAC Crossover Tournament and delivered an impressive weekend performance, finishing 3–0 and securing a signature win over No. 8-ranked Umpqua.
"This weekend was a really good indicator of who we are becoming," said Head Coach Darah Vining. "We stayed connected, competed for four quarters each game and trusted one another in big moments."
The Clippers opened the tournament with a 70–49 win over Blue Mountain, controlling the game on both ends of the floor. Jaynee Tanner set the tone with 19 points and 24 rebounds, while Autumn Breedlove provided a major spark off the bench with 16 points. South Puget Sound dominated the glass and held Blue Mountain to under 30 percent shooting.
"Autumn gave us exactly what we needed off the bench," Vining said. "Her energy, confidence, and ability to impact the game on both ends helped us secure that win."
On Friday night, the Clippers delivered the weekend's biggest statement with a 73–66 victory over No. 8 Umpqua. Jaynee Tanner continued her dominant play, posting 21 points, 21 rebounds, and four blocks, anchoring the paint on both ends. South Puget Sound matched Umpqua's physicality and executed to secure the upset win.
"It was a complete team win," Vining said. "Umpqua is a great team and competed hard throughout the game. Our players trusted the game plan, stayed disciplined, and executed when it mattered, which allowed us to come away with the win."
South Puget Sound closed the weekend with a hard-fought 64–61 win over Skagit Valley, led byJaynee Tanner's 29-point, 14-rebound performance. Mia Martinez added 14 points, providing steady scoring and leadership as the Clippers made key plays down the stretch.
"Mia was really consistent for us throughout the tournament," Vining said. "She played tough, found her rhythm, and had several big moments that helped our energy."
Across the three-game stretch, Jaynee Tanner averaged 23.0 points, 19.7 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game, shooting 91 percent from the free-throw line, while South Puget Sound showcased balanced contributions, defensive toughness, and composure in close games.
"Jaynee's consistency is what makes her special," Vining said. "She impacts every possession — whether it's rebounding, protecting the rim, or stepping to the line and delivering when the game is tight. Her ability to consistently produce double-doubles night after night is incredible."
South Puget Sound remains at home this week with two upcoming matchups, hosting Chemeketa on December 18 at 7:00 PM, followed by Lane on December 19 at 4:00 PM.
