Clippers Graduate 14 Student-Athletes
The 54th Commencement ceremony took place June 15th, where SPSCC awarded 1,887 associate degrees and certificates. Among those graduates stood 14 Clipper Student-Athletes representing all four athletic programs.
Men’s Soccer saw fivegraduates, Alexander Amado, Carter Stephens, Skyler Stephens, Drew Amburgy, and Colby Butler. First year head coach Juan Murillo had this to say about his graduating class, ““Whenever I speak with a student athlete, the first thing I emphasize is academics. They’re here to get a degree, and degree completion is no easy task. It is remarkable to see these student-athletes complete that goal, because it shows real commitment and determination in their character. These are valuable characteristics not only important for their sport but characteristics that will be transferable in their future careers and lives. I am always extremely proud to celebrate this achievement, because I know just how much work is put in to get it done. I wish every graduate much success in their future endeavors.”
Echoing Coach Murillo, first year volleyball Coach Tusalava Kuaea shared her pride as Alexis Sharp and Mikayla Collins accepted their diplomas, “Every one of our graduates should be very proud of themselves. After all of the long hours they’ve dedicated to their academics and sport, it is something that not everyone can do as it takes time, discipline and commitment. Great job graduates!”
Coach Moore enjoyed watching three of his student-athletes walk across stage, Mikayla Collins, Rianna Whitehead, and Trinity Betoney; “Two Co-Captains, a Western Region MVP and most importantly, graduates! They helped our program in more ways than one and helped me become a better Coach. The future is bright for these Clippers and we were blessed to have you.”
Athletic Director Vernell Willingham shared these parting words about the importance of graduation day, “ as our sophomores go off into the future, we appreciate the time they spent with us, being more than just a student-athlete, but being a pillar of the community in all that they have sacrificed to support Clipper Athletics.” Sail and prevail on your next step Clippers!
